• Enabling participants to achieve purposeful lives

    Our Staff

We employ a team of dedicated and experienced Work Supporters, who guide and enable participants to reach their full potential during work-based activities. It is essential that Work Supporters provide light support and guidance throughout the activities while enabling the participants to explore and develop at their own pace. Our support staff have a wide range of skills including gardening, sewing, card making and woodworking as well as an understanding of autism and learning needs of our participants. Staff support our participants and help them to understand what work means and how to be part of a work environment.

Like many parents of young people with autism or a learning disability I was anxious about how my son’s life would be occupied after he left the sanctuary of education. Fear and the belief an alternative service would be valued locally, prompted a meeting with two like minded mums. This conversation triggered the creation of Work-Shop. Work-Shop is now a joyful network of participants, families, incredible staff and volunteers and supportive business partners. It is a delight to be involved. Witnessing the ongoing skills development and achievements of participants is a privilege. Previously I worked in health and education. I am married to Fin and we have adult children, Cathy and Cal.

Ten years ago, I was invited to meet over coffee with two other mothers of son's with a learning disability and autism. We were concerned about the lack of purpose awaiting our adult children after they completed education. From this meeting Work-Shop was born. Being involved with Work-Shop is very important to me. It has been a privilege to help the service grow and to witness the amazing achievements made by our participants working with our wonderful staff. Prior to Work-Shop I worked in legal roles. I am married to John, who enjoys regularly volunteering with Work-Shop and we have 4 wonderful adult children.
